Tracking and Herding
From UO:PvE Wiki
Find nearby creatures with Tracking or guide eligible wildlife with a shepherd’s crook.

Tracking#
Use Tracking and choose animals, monsters, human NPCs or players. The source search range is 10 + floor(Tracking/10) ×10 tiles and returns up to 12 nearby qualifying targets. Select one to receive a direction arrow.
Player tracking has additional difficulty checks involving Tracking, Detect Hidden, Hiding and Stealth. A target being in range does not guarantee it appears. The skill has a 10-second reuse delay.
Herding#
Double-click a shepherd’s crook, target a creature, then choose where it should move. Ordinary tameable wildlife is eligible; already controlled creatures and paragons are refused. Some champion-spawn creatures have an explicit exception.
The check is based on the creature’s taming difficulty, from minimum tame skill−30 to minimum tame skill+30 plus a random adjustment. Herding gives a destination; it does not tame the creature or make it your pet.
