Stamina loss, carrying weight and fatigue

From UO:PvE Wiki

Injury and carrying too much can reduce stamina and therefore slow weapon swings.

Development source reviewed on 29 October 2026. In-game availability is unverified.

Injury fatigue#

Ordinary damage fatigue is damage×current stamina÷current health −5. If positive, its whole-number part is subtracted from stamina. The hook runs before the ordinary health subtraction, so current health here is the health seen by the damage callback.

Pain Spike has a separate fatigue formula: damage×(100÷current health + (50+current stamina)÷100−1)−5, again subtracting its whole-number part only when positive.

Weight allowance#

A Human’s maximum weight is 100+floor(3.5×Strength); an Elf’s is 40+floor(3.5×Strength). The movement system allows another 4 stones before treating you as overloaded. It compares this against body weight plus carried weight.

For positive overweight O, the basic loss is 5+floor(O÷25). Divide by 3 with integer truncation when mounted; double it when running. On foot this reduces stamina, and reaching zero from an overloaded move blocks that move.

Running on foot#

Running below 10% of maximum stamina costs an additional 1 stamina per movement event. Normal on-foot running also tracks steps: after exceeding 16 accumulated steps, it spends 1 stamina and resets that counter. Idle time restores one step of allowance per second.

The reviewed configuration does not automatically prohibit ordinary walking or running solely because stamina is zero. The separate overload and mount-fatigue checks can still stop movement.

Mounted travel#

Mount stamina is enabled. With the current era default, the mount-stamina path is used only when overloaded: ordinary unburdened riding does not consume that path’s step budget. Different mounts can have their own step capacity.
