Reading the spell reference
From UO:PvE Wiki
How to read all 91 registered spells and the custom Bind the Departed spell against the shard’s current rules.
Development source reviewed on 29 October 2026. In-game availability is unverified.
Coverage#
The catalogue contains every spell registered by this shard: 64 Magery spells (IDs 0–63), 17 Necromancy spells (100–116), and 10 Chivalry spells (200–209), plus the custom Bind the Departed command spell. ShardSkillPolicy permits those three spellbook families. Current behavior is evaluated for the configured Endless Journey expansion; historical branches are excluded.
Costs and casting#
Mana and cast delay in the reference are base costs. Lower Mana Cost, Faster Casting, protection, expansion adjustments and spell-specific overrides affect actual use. Chivalry spends tithing as well as mana. The caster must initially possess the full required tithing even when Lower Reagent Cost later prevents its consumption.
Magery entries show the skill-check interval, not a separate hard minimum. Scrolls lower that interval by two circles. Necromancy normally checks RequiredSkill through RequiredSkill + 40; its scroll check uses RequiredSkill for both bounds. Chivalry checks RequiredSkill through RequiredSkill + 50. Vampiric Embrace has its own interval once 99 Necromancy is reached.
| Circle | Base mana | Base cast delay | Magery check interval |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 4 | 0.75 seconds | -18–22 |
| 2 | 6 | 1 seconds | -4–36 |
| 3 | 9 | 1.25 seconds | 10–50 |
| 4 | 11 | 1.5 seconds | 24–64 |
| 5 | 14 | 1.75 seconds | 38–78 |
| 6 | 20 | 2 seconds | 52–92 |
| 7 | 40 | 2.25 seconds | 66–106 |
| 8 | 50 | 2.5 seconds | 80–120 |
Formula notation#
A damage seed such as 40 + 1d5 means 40 plus one roll of a five-sided die before the shared spell-damage calculation. It is not the final amount taken by the victim. Shared damage bonuses, school conflict, creature modifiers and resistance still apply.
trunc means discard the fractional part toward zero, matching the source’s integer casts. Random integer ranges include both endpoints. Radius and target range are distinct: target range controls the cursor; radius selects nearby affected creatures. Most targeted spells have a current-era range of 10 tiles.
“School-scaled” means multiplication by the Magery or Necromancy school scalar. For players, opposite-school effective or base skill above 50 creates stepped penalties: 60 gives 10%, 70 gives 20%, through 120 giving 70%. Integer effects truncate after scaling. Not every timer is scaled; the entries name only the scaling actually present in source.
Per-spell exceptions#
- Arch Cure reduces its base fourth-circle delay by 0.25 seconds. Blade Spirits and Summon Creature multiply the normal cast delay before their current-era correction.
- Night Sight uses a 12-tile target range, field spells and Dispel Field use 15, Resurrection uses 1, and Close Wounds enforces an effective 2-tile range.
- Some old comments differ from executable rules. The catalogue follows the code for Wither’s 4-tile radius, Evil Omen’s halved resistance, Strangle’s final non-damaging timer event, Mana Vampire’s signed transfer and Divine Fury’s actual weapon hit modifiers.
