What a slayer matches#
Slayer membership is based on the creature’s C# class and inherited base classes. Matching is not based on appearance, name, map or a general lore category. A custom descendant of a listed class also matches that entry.
There are 25 active weapon/book/instrument entries: seven super slayers and eighteen lesser slayers. Super slayers cover a broad group; lesser slayers cover the specific types listed on the group reference pages. Daemon Dismissal and Balron Damnation remain enum values but are not registered in the active AOS branch.
Groups and opposition#
The opposition table identifies the group whose creatures oppose a slayer. Actual consequences depend on the attack or instrument code below.
| Group | Super slayer | Lesser slayers | Opposition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Humanoid | Repond Slayer | Ogre Slayer, Orc Slayer, Troll Slayer | Undead |
| Undead | Undead Slayer | None | Humanoid |
| Fey | Fey Slayer | None | Demon |
| Elemental | Elemental Slayer | Blood Elemental Slayer, Earth Elemental Slayer, Poison Elemental Slayer, Fire Elemental Slayer, Snow Elemental Slayer, Air Elemental Slayer, Water Elemental Slayer | Demon |
| Demon | Demon Slayer | Gargoyle Slayer | Elemental, Fey |
| Arachnid | Arachnid Slayer | Scorpion Slayer, Spider Slayer, Terathan Slayer | Reptilian |
| Reptilian | Reptile Slayer | Dragon Slayer, Lizardman Slayer, Ophidian Slayer, Snake Slayer | Arachnid |
Weapon damage#
A matching Slayer or Slayer2, or a matching talisman slayer, makes the weapon damage code add 100 percentage points to the shared damage-multiplier stage. Matching both slots does not create two separate slayer bonuses. The checked implementation gives the same +100 modifier to a lesser and a super slayer; their matching breadth differs.
The modifier is combined with other weapon damage bonuses before the later damage pipeline, so it is not a promise that the final hit will always be exactly twice another hit. Lightning Arrow bypasses the attacking slayer/talisman checks while that ability is selected.
Weapon opposition vulnerability is inside an !Core.SE gate. With the shard’s current EJ expansion, that weapon opposition branch is inactive. Silver also adds 25 percentage points against a target in a Necromancer transformation other than Horrific Beast.
Spellbook damage and opposition#
Spell paths calling Spell.GetSlayerDamageScalar check the caster’s equipped spellbook. A matching slayer returns a scalar of 2.0. Silver adds 0.25 for a target with a transformation context other than Horrific Beast.
If no offensive book modifier changes the scalar, the helper checks the defender’s equipped spellbook, falling back to its ISlayer weapon. If an opposing super-slayer group matches the caster’s class, the helper returns 2.0. This opposition check remains active in the current spell helper; it is not the disabled weapon-opposition branch.
Barding instruments#
Each instrument slayer slot is checked separately. A match subtracts 10 from barding difficulty; otherwise a matching opposing group adds 10. An exceptional instrument separately subtracts 5. Two matching slots can therefore affect difficulty twice in this implementation.
Slayer loot selection helper#
GetLootSlayerType is a selection helper, not a drop chance. It checks the exact creature type against each group’s FoundOn list. On a match it chooses uniformly between that group’s super slayer and each lesser entry. With no match it returns Silver. Subclasses do not satisfy this particular exact-type lookup merely by inheritance.
| Selected slayer group | Exact source types |
|---|---|
| Humanoid | BoneKnight, Lich, LichLord |
| Elemental | Balron, Daemon |
| Demon | BloodElemental |
| Arachnid | AncientWyrm, GreaterDragon, Dragon, OphidianMatriarch, ShadowWyrm |
| Reptilian | TerathanAvenger, TerathanMatriarch |
Talisman families#
Nine separate talisman families are defined: Bear, Vermin, Bat, Mage, Beetle, Bird, Ice, Flame and Bovine. They use the same assignable-class matching idea but have their own membership table and no opposition-group table. The Butcher’s War Cleaver also checks the Bovine talisman family.
