Applying and curing poison
From UO:PvE Wiki
Magery poison strength depends on skill and distance; spell cures and weapon coatings follow separate formulas.

Poison spell strength#
The Poison spell first permits a Resisting Spells check. On a failed resistance check, let S be effective Magery plus effective Poisoning. Duel rules can exclude Poisoning from that sum. At a distance of 3 tiles or more, the current expansion branch assigns Lesser Poison. Below 3 tiles, the thresholds below apply; from 2 to 3 tiles, subtract (distance − 2) × 31 from S before checking them. Distance is geometric, not simply the number of walking steps.
Magery poison also retains the caster’s school-strength multiplier, which scales later poison damage.
| Adjusted skill sum S | Poison below 3 tiles |
|---|---|
| S > 200, distance ≤ 2 | 10% Lethal; otherwise Deadly |
| S > 199.8 | Deadly |
| S > 170.2 | Greater |
| S > 130.2 | Regular |
| Otherwise | Lesser |
Poisoning a weapon#
The Poisoning skill accepts weapons that have Infectious Strike as a primary or secondary ability. The coating attempt consumes its potion when it starts and resolves after 2 seconds against the potion’s skill range. A successful coating receives 18 − 2 × poison level charges. On a failed attempt, a character with base Poisoning below 80 has a 5% chance to poison themselves.
Infectious Strike costs 15 mana before applicable ability reductions and consumes one coating charge. Its initial maximum poison level is floor(Poisoning / 20) for standard poison, min(floor(Poisoning / 33.3), 3) for Darkglow, or min(floor(Poisoning / 25), 4) for Parasitic. The coating is reduced to that maximum when necessary. A second roll, with probability Poisoning / 100, tries to increase it by one registered poison level. See the weapon ability catalogue for activation rules.
Cure spell#
For standard poison level L from 0 through 4, compute N = 10000 + trunc(75 × Magery) − (L + 1) × K, where K is 3300 for levels 0–3 and 3100 for level 4. Divide N by 100 with integer truncation, clamp the result to 0–100, and apply the caster’s school-strength multiplier. The result is the percentage cure chance.
| At 100 Magery and full school strength | Lesser | Regular | Greater | Deadly | Lethal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cure chance | 100% | 100% | 76% | 43% | 20% |
Arch Cure#
Arch Cure uses the next registered poison level: chance = clamp(trunc((10000 + trunc(75 × Magery) − nextLevel × 1750) / 100) − 1, 0, 100), then applies school strength. The highest standard level remains level 4 when asking for its next level. At 100 Magery and full strength, this reaches 100% for all five standard poison levels.
Its area radius is 2 tiles. Under the inspected Felucca rules, area selection excludes non-player creatures other than the caster; a valid directly targeted creature is handled separately. Do not assume its area component cures every nearby pet.
