Special drops, harvest and reward hooks

From UO:PvE Wiki

Creature scripts, harvesting and encounter systems add rewards through distinct source paths.

Development source reviewed on 29 October 2026. In-game availability is unverified.

Ordinary eligibility#

Ordinary encounter loot excludes deleted creatures, players, summons, controlled or bonded creatures, creatures with owners, no-kill-award creatures, invulnerable or blessed creatures, and the listed vendor, hireling, escort and guard categories. A class appearing in the catalogue does not make every instance eligible for ordinary loot.

The system classifies the following families as natural loot, including their subclasses: rats and giant rats; bullfrogs and giant toads; giant, ice, lava and silver serpents and snakes; lava lizards; giant, frost and black-widow spiders; scorpions; vampire bats; skittering hoppers; mounds of maggots; slimes and corrosive slimes; deathwatch beetles and hatchlings. Their scripted harvest resources are distinct from ordinary treasure.

Harvest properties#

Meat, meat type, hides, hide type, scales, scale type, feathers and related properties are preserved per creature in the catalogue. These describe the source’s harvesting inputs. They should not be read as guaranteed loose items on every corpse, because carving and other harvest handling are separate actions.

Treasure maps and paragon extras#

The ordinary creature treasure-map chance defaults to 1%. A creature’s requested map level is capped by its reward-difficulty tier, and an existing treasure map prevents a duplicate. The shared before-death hook also checks map/facet and other eligibility conditions.

For paragons on this path, a 10% paragon-chest roll is tried first; if it fails, the ordinary map roll can be tried on Felucca or Trammel. A separate 20% paragon ingredient roll selects one of Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Liquor, Sack of Sugar or Vanilla. This describes the implemented paragon path, not a promise that paragons are currently spawned.

Artifacts and dedicated death rewards#

The shared killed-by hook first checks the creature’s GivesMLMinorArtifact flag; otherwise a paragon can use the paragon artifact path. These checks depend on creature fame and the credited player’s luck. They are separate from the ordinary equipment count. Bosses can also implement their own artifact, power-scroll, skull or other death hooks.

The catalogue retains those methods, conditions and referenced artifact tables for each type. A listed item in a reward table is a candidate, not a guarantee that every kill produces it. Inherited death rules remain attributed to their defining class.

Adventure drops and checkpoint rewards#

A successfully completed encounter reaches the adventure-drop hook. Eligible undead and demons at D10+ can drop a matching portal stone at 1%; eligible undead, demons and humanoids at D20+ can attempt a refinement recipe at 0.3% + 0.01% × difficulty, only when a portal stone was not awarded. A living meaningful contributor needs at least 10% contribution. Fracture enemies are excluded from these extra corpse drops.

Fracture enemies use encounter progression but have no ordinary corpse loot. Their gold comes from cleared-wave checkpoints, and their equipment entitlement is shared across the run. Bounty caches, charter rewards, treasure-chest recipes and fishing bonuses likewise have their own rules; they should not be added to an ordinary creature table as unconditional loot.
