Portal stones and escalating expeditions

From UO:PvE Wiki

Rare undead and demon drops open escalating runs through the Fracture.

Development source reviewed on 29 October 2026. In-game availability is unverified.

Find a stone#

Eligible undead and demon encounters at D10 or above have a 1% chance to place a matching stone on the corpse. At least one living player must have 10% or more allocated contribution and find the difficulty meaningful. Fracture enemies do not drop entry stones or refinement recipes.

A sepulchral stone opens the undead variant; an infernal stone opens the demon variant. The stone’s starting difficulty follows the defeated creature’s license band and is capped at D95. The stone is not owner-bound.

Enter and climb#

Double-click the stone in your backpack. Solo players confirm their own invitation; groups must first form a normal party, with its leader opening the stone. Portal entry does not require Hunter Guild membership. Other progression, living-player and ready-check requirements apply.

The first wave begins after ten seconds. Each cleared portal wave raises difficulty by five, with fifteen seconds before the next wave. Escalation ends before exceeding the lowest remaining participant’s licensed maximum or D100. A wipe, the 45-minute limit or retreat can end the run earlier.

Every third wave has a commander, and D100 always has one. The undead variant has two extra enemies per wave; the demon variant adds burning ground.

Before committing#

The item is consumed only after final entry checks succeed and an arena is available. Declined, expired or failed invitations preserve it. There are four concurrent arena cells; a full set means another attempt is needed later.

The sources implement the drop and arena paths. Actual world monster availability, the running build and client behavior were not verified by this file audit.
