Crime and town guards
From UO:PvE Wiki
Guard protection depends on the current region and the act being judged.
Development source reviewed on 29 October 2026. In-game availability is unverified.
Call for help#
In an enabled guarded region, a living character can say guards. The region looks for eligible nearby criminals or other permanent guard candidates. Some NPC witnesses can also summon guards automatically.
A newly flagged guard candidate ordinarily has a 15-second guard-call window. Do not confuse that window with the full duration of criminal status. Guard availability is determined by live region state.
Criminal consequences#
Harming an innocent, helping a criminal or murderer in relevant circumstances, or criminal looting can lead to guard attention. Ordinary healers and bankers also refuse criminals, and travel spells have criminal restrictions.
A region can allow or reject murderers separately. The shard’s PvE name does not remove every underlying notoriety rule. Check the current realm rules and in-game messages before assuming an action is protected.
Reputation is separate#
Town and community reputation penalties are another system. A score change does not replace criminal flags, guard eligibility or corpse-looting permissions.
